Accessible Web Design

Our web designers will ensure your website reaches the accessibility needs of your users.

The growing importance of making your website accessible

In 2018, the UK government issued the accessibility regulations requirements, meaning all public sector bodies are now obligated to ensure their websites and apps meet a set list of minimum criteria in order to comply with the regulations.

This, coupled with the growing emphasis on user experience (UX) driving user interface (UI) design, means that accessibility is now becoming one of the key influences when considering your website’s design and structure.

The role of accessibility on the world wide web

The accessibility rating of a website is formally recognised by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and split into three levels; A (minimum), AA (intermediate) and AAA (highest standard).

The ability for impaired users to traverse your website depends on your accessibility rating, which is determined by meeting a set list of criteria that impacts both the look and feel of your site as well as its structure and functionality. Without considering accessibility, many impaired users will be unable to use your site, losing you conversions and valuable online traffic.

Why your next website should be accessible

As more of everyday life moves online, the need for accessible websites will only increase. Businesses are realising that by not catering for their impaired users, they are effectively losing out to their competitors.

With this in mind, designing for accessibility is beneficial for both public and private companies, for many of the following reasons;

Increasing your audience

By meeting a formal accessible standard (whether that is A, AA or AAA), you are increasing your outreach to a wider audience. Users who require accessibility features do not just include users with physical or visual impairments (such as colour blindness), but also learning difficulties (such as dyslexia). By making your site accessible, you allow a wider audience to access your brand.

Enhancing your SEO value

Many of the measures that are required to be implemented for accessibility purposes also go hand-in-hand with increasing your webpage’s SEO rating. The emphasis on clean, easy to read and digestible content that is helpful to your users naturally lends itself to increasing the quality of your website’s content, boosting your chances of making it further up the search results!

Creating a positive image

Making your website accessible is a show of good faith to your existing and new customers. It shows you have taken the time to assess their potential needs and readily provide a solution to make their interaction with you and your website easier. This enhances your values as a company and is another great way to ensure your business is inclusive both internally and externally.

How we can help as a web accessibility agency

When working with you to help realise your new website, our web designers will consider your accessibility level requirement as a top priority.

During the discovery and wireframe phase, they will ensure the layout of each of your web pages has been carefully planned to optimise the user journey and focus on directing your traffic to the most high-value pages. When producing design mock-ups, they will help to carefully refine your brand to verify it meets the accessibility level of your choosing, creating colour palettes which meet accessible contrast levels and recommending creative layouts which do not compromise on your technical needs.

Our design team have worked on a myriad of websites across a large cross-section of sectors, meaning they are adept at creating bespoke designs to suit your brand and users’ needs.
