Page Speed Optimisation

Website speed optimisation improves load times, boosts user engagement and delivers a higher number of conversions.

Increasing site speed, optimising for mobile devices and improving web pages with high bounce rates are all hugely beneficial tasks to help enhance a website. Our team of SEO and development experts analyse website data to find areas of opportunity to help increase conversions and deliver a better user experience.

A few extra seconds in website loading time can be damaging to the amount of conversions on your site and may lead to visitors leaving before they have even viewed your proposition. Whether your site is WordPress, Joomla or almost any platform, there are always areas to refine to deliver a faultless experience for website visitors, increase user engagement and improve bounce rates.

How Do I Work Out My Page Load Speed?

The key to improving page load speed is to diagnose what is causing your site to run slowly. It could be down to poorly written code right through to bulky images. With page speed a critical ranking signal for search engines, and crucial for user experience, it is essential to resolve any issues in order for your website to perform.

The easiest way to assess page speed is to use Google’s Page Speed Insight tool. Why not give this a go and see if there is room for improvement for your website? There improvements that can be implemented to speed up your site, and our SEO and design experts are here to help you achieve this.

Our Website Speed Optimisation Process

  • Set Out a Strategy
We will discuss your current website performance, look at the data to see what we are working with, and pinpoint areas of improvement.
  • Audit
Our team complete a full website and analytics audit to see how the site was developed and how it is performing. We flag any ‘quick wins’, resolve any bugs and establish any areas that, when optimised, will increase performance.
  • Page Speed Updates
We use our secure staging environment to test out any optimisation work in full and measure the positive impact improvements will have. We then test on staging and resolve any bugs before go live, and test again on the live environment to avoid any issues.
  • Ongoing Assessment
Following the improvements, we will track them for you and continue to make any further refinements. We use tools such as Google Page Speed Insights and Search Console to record the relevant information and to find areas of improvement.

Google Core Web Vitals

Core Web Vitals are a set of metrics used to help site owners measure how their user experience performs on the web. They report on the speed, responsiveness and visual stability of websites.

Through Core Web Vitals, Google aims to provide site owners with comprehensive metrics to create a holistic overview of the page experience.

Loading: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

LCP accounts for the time taken for the largest page element to load, which accurately matches user’s experience.

Optimised websites aim to have the LCP element show within the first 2.5 seconds of a page beginning to load.

Interactivity: First Input Delay (FID)

The second Core Web Vital is First Input Delay and aims to quantify a user’s first impression. It does this by looking at the time from a user's initial interaction with a site (by clicking a link or button, for example) to how long it takes the site to process and respond to the action.

Site owners should aim for an FID score of fewer than 100 milliseconds.

Visual Stability: Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)

A layout shift and occurs when a page element jumps from one rendered frame to another. Layout shifts damage a user’s page experience and so CLS is an important metric to consider. To deliver a positive page experience, sites should have a CLS score of less than 0.1.

Optimised For Mobile Audiences

Mobile responsive sites require both speed and optimisation, to accurately display on smaller screens. Optimisation allows sites to reformat and adapt to the best configuration for tablet and mobile devices. Navigation is simpler and more user friendly, with the use of larger call to actions, buttons and links, while images reform according to screen size.

We ensure that your site is mobile, and tablet optimised across almost all devices, and conduct thorough testing to ensure any issues are resolved. A fully optimised, mobile first site will help gain visitors, increase user engagement and grow your business.
