Making a Difference to Our Local Communities

Reverse Advent Calendars

Reverse advent calendars are super simple and easy to complete. Instead of (or as well as) taking out a chocolate from your advent calendar to enjoy every day in the run-up to Christmas, set aside one item in a box each day ready to donate to the local food bank. Throughout the advent countdown, you will have gathered a substantial number of items to hand over just in time for Christmas.

2020, as we all know, hasn’t been the best of years, and so more people than ever are reliant on the support of local charities and food banks, making donations more vital than ever before. Covid-19 has led to tens of thousands of new people needing to use a food bank as a lifeline for the first time.

What Items to Put in a Food Box & Find Your Local Food Bank

Non-perishable foods, items such as toiletries and baby supplies are all hugely welcome at food banks. Many charities running food banks actually list the things they are short on, so it is a good idea to have a look and see what to add to your box, but some examples include:

  • Long-life fruit juice
  • Sponge puddings
  • Shampoo
  • Shaving foam
  • Toothbrushes
  • Nappies, creams, powders & wipes
  • Long-life festive treats
  • Conditioner
  • Tinned cold meats
  • Tinned meals
  • Deodorant

These are the food banks local to our offices; however, if you do wish to get involved, it is straightforward to find your local food bank drop off location. Just use the Trussell Trust tool to find out where it is and what they currently require most.

Rank Your Domain’s Involvement

Here at Rank Your Domain, aside from members of the team making reverse advent calendars and donating food boxes, the company will donate to a local Salisbury charity for every box donated by our team.

The charity in question is Salisbury Christmas Dinner, an organisation dedicated to making sure that everyone who needs a meal in Salisbury and the surrounding area receives one. Our very own Amanda is volunteering for this incredible cause to help make this happen.

If you would like to donate to them directly, then please do so via their Just Giving page.

Thank you for your support and have a very Merry Christmas, and here is to a happy and healthy 2021!
